CafeineX privacy policy

Your data should help you—not become the product.

This policy explains what CafeineX processes, why it is needed, where it stays, and the choices available to you during the TestFlight pilot and after launch.

Effective July 31, 2026Version 1.0
01

Scope and product boundary

This policy covers the CafeineX iPhone application, its TestFlight beta, and this website. CafeineX is an awareness and reflection tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide diagnosis, treatment, prevention, or emergency services.

02

Data the app processes

Depending on the features you use, CafeineX may process:

  • Events you create: caffeine and nicotine product, amount, time, source, and optional notes or context.
  • Your setup: preferred name, optional profile photo, sleep schedule, sensitivity setting, appearance, and personal goal.
  • Saved libraries: drinks, cigarette profiles, favorites, serving details, and manufacturer label information you enter.
  • Derived information: active-caffeine estimates, ranges, cutoff guidance, timing overlaps, streaks, and weekly summaries calculated from your records.
  • Technical links: Apple Health sample identifiers used locally to prevent duplicate caffeine records.

These app records are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device persistence technologies. CafeineX does not currently provide an account system or cloud sync.

03

Optional Apple Health access

CafeineX works without Apple Health. If you choose to connect it, the app requests only the permissions needed for the feature you activate:

Dietary caffeineOptional read and write

Used to synchronize caffeine records and avoid duplicates.

Sleep analysisOptional read-only

Used to calculate the latest readable sleep context in memory.

Raw sleep samples and the resulting sleep snapshot are not copied into the CafeineX database. Nicotine events are not written to Apple Health. CafeineX does not request heart rate, HRV, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, wrist temperature, workouts, medications, or clinical records.

Apple controls Health permissions. You can review or revoke them in the Health app or iOS Settings. To protect privacy, HealthKit does not tell apps whether read permission was denied; an empty result may also mean no recent readable data.

04

How information is used

CafeineX uses information only to:

  • show your timeline, history, saved items, profile, and settings;
  • calculate estimates and descriptive pattern summaries for you;
  • synchronize authorized dietary caffeine records with Apple Health;
  • show optional sleep context without claiming causation;
  • maintain reliability, prevent duplicates, and support safe local migrations; and
  • respond to feedback or support requests you choose to submit.

CafeineX does not use HealthKit data for advertising, marketing, profiling for ads, or data mining. Estimates describe a model and may not match an individual's actual physiology.

05

Sharing, advertising, and sale

CafeineX does not sell personal information or health information. The app does not include advertising SDKs or third-party behavioral analytics. Health information is not disclosed to data brokers, advertising platforms, or information resellers.

Information may be disclosed only when you direct it, when needed to respond to your voluntary support request, or when legally required. Apple independently processes information needed to provide TestFlight, the App Store, iOS, and HealthKit under Apple's terms and privacy practices.

06

Retention and deletion

Local CafeineX records remain on your device until you delete individual records or remove the app and its data. Deleting a local record may not delete a related Apple Health sample; Health data is managed separately in the Health app. Removing Health permission stops future access but does not automatically remove local records you previously created or imported.

Voluntary support and beta feedback may be retained only as long as reasonably necessary to investigate the issue, improve the product, meet legal obligations, and maintain an appropriate record of the response. Apple controls retention for TestFlight information held in its systems.

07

This website and TestFlight

This website does not offer an account, email waitlist, advertising, or behavioral analytics. It does not intentionally set marketing cookies. Hosting infrastructure may process standard request data, such as an IP address, browser information, timestamps, and security events, to deliver and protect the site.

If you join through a public TestFlight link, Apple may make limited beta information available to the developer, such as install status, device and OS details, sessions, crashes, and feedback. Apple states that a tester's name and email are not visible to the developer when the tester joins through a public link.

08

Your choices and privacy rights

You can:

  • use CafeineX without connecting Apple Health;
  • grant caffeine and sleep permissions separately;
  • review or revoke Health permissions in Apple's system interfaces;
  • edit or delete local records through available app controls;
  • delete local app data by removing the app from your device; and
  • ask questions or make a privacy request through the official feedback or support contact shown on CafeineX's TestFlight page.

Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or obtain a copy of personal information held by the developer. Because the current app is local-first and account-free, the developer may not possess data that identifies your in-app records.

09

Security and beta software

CafeineX relies on Apple platform protections and minimizes data movement by keeping app records on device. No security practice can guarantee absolute protection. TestFlight builds are prerelease software and may contain defects, change data formats, or require a reset. Do not rely on CafeineX for urgent, clinical, or safety-critical decisions.

10

Children

CafeineX is not directed to children under 13, and the developer does not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website. Age requirements imposed by Apple, TestFlight, local law, or a family organizer also apply.

11

Changes and contact

This policy may be updated as CafeineX changes. A new effective date and version will appear at the top. Material changes will be communicated through the app, TestFlight notes, or this website when appropriate.

During the private pilot, privacy questions and requests can be sent through the official CafeineX feedback or support contact displayed in TestFlight. A dedicated public support address will be added here before the App Store release.

Important

This policy is designed to reflect the current CafeineX product and pilot. It is not a substitute for advice from qualified legal counsel about obligations in a particular jurisdiction.
